Licensed business radios are much more versatile than
their licence-free alternatives.
Licensed radio systems allow for the use of base radios
or repeaters with external aerials giving ranges of
up to 3km in urban environments.
On-Site Licence
Handheld (or Vehicle) radios talking to a Desktop radio
or remote Repeater with external antenna. With this
system the range can be up to 3km.
Wide Area Licence
Beyond 3km. Handheld (or Vehicle) radios talking to
a Desktop radio or remote Repeater with external antenna.
With this system the range can be many Km.

Back-to-Back.
Handheld radios only talking to one another. This system
can give range improvements over a licence free system.
Licensing is to ensure equipment performs to certain
technical standards set by OFCOM. It does not carry
any burden of training or inspection. Licence fees are
paid direct to OFCOM.
